The story of Brothers Cove Ventures begins long before the company itself - and long before modern Saint John even existed. The Ring family’s connection to shipbuilding and the water stretches back centuries. Historical records place brothers Tristram and John Ring in Saint John’s shipbuilding industry as early as 1823, continuing a maritime tradition already deeply rooted in the family. Even earlier, Zebedee Ring settled in the Township of Conway in 1771 - twelve years before the Loyalists arrived in Saint John - making the Ring name one of the oldest in New Brunswick’s history.
But the family story reaches back even further. In 1638, Robert Ringe left Marlborough, Wiltshire, England aboard the ship Confidence and arrived in Salisbury, Massachusetts, where the family name eventually became “Ring”. Family history and historical references suggest he was already involved in shipping and shipbuilding before crossing the Atlantic, carrying those skills and traditions into the New World. Nearly 500 years later, that same connection to the water continues through Brothers Cove Ventures and Captain Geodie Ring.

Raised on the rivers and waterfront of Saint John, Geodie grew up surrounded by boats, shipyards, and marine life. Building on generations of maritime experience, he founded Brothers Cove Ventures to continue the family legacy while creating a modern vision for marine services, vessel restoration, charters, and waterfront experiences in New Brunswick. Today, the company combines old-world craftsmanship with a deep appreciation for the waterways that shaped its history. From restoring vessels to sharing the beauty of the Saint John and Kennebecasis Rivers, Brothers Cove Ventures carries forward generations of knowledge, resilience, and passion for life on the water. For the Ring family, the water has never simply been a livelihood - it has always been part of who they are.
